Summer Looks with Staying Power

When it comes to the end of the season, there are some things you just want to hold on to, like long nights, ice cream stands and light-as-air fashion. I’m happy to say: no need to let go of the clothes just yet! Here are five summer trends we still love—and how to wear them into fall.

  • Chambray dress. So easy when it’s warm outside—just throw it on with a cute pair of shoes!—but for fall, it’s about layering. Pop a turtleneck underneath, add tights and a flat boot and you have an outfit that easily transitions to fall weekends.
  • Walking shorts. For a schoolboy-inspired look, try them with a button front under a crew neck sweater and some lace-up sneakers. Or dress them up with a thin turtleneck and some slip-on loafers. Chic!
  • Eyelet blouse. Toughen up that lacy look with texture: A pair of maroon or navy waxed jeans, suede booties and a jean jacket will do the trick.
  • Patterned silk pants. Forget the breezy shell and add structured pieces to balance these out, like a v-neck tee and blazer on top and a pair of pumps below.
  • Chiffon tunic. Layer it with leather-look leggings (be sure to cover your crotch!), a nubby, drapey sweater, knee-high boots and some statement jewelry.
