Plum Lip

Why not try… A Vampy Lip

  • This spring and summer, the berry-stained lip gave coral a run for its money, and for fall, its cousins plum and burgundy take center stage. Inspired by some of the darker hues popular in the ‘90s, look for earthier, darker shades with more purple or brown in them. “This lip looks super-sophisticated, and is a moody twist on the classic red lip,” says Amick.
  • Get it right: Make sure the rest of your makeup’s done. “Unlike the sheer hues you wear in summer, this saturated color demands a full face of makeup to look put together, otherwise it’ll look out of place,” says Amick. “It’s a bold, vampy look—embrace it!”
  • Amick’s pick: Nars in Scarlett Empress
Pink Blush

Why not try… Pink, Pink Blush!

  • Contouring may still be going strong, but a pop of pink gives you a fresh, pretty look—why yes, I did just go for a hike in the Alps! “Cheek stains and cream blushes are great for this look, they really blend into the skin for a natural glow,” says Amick. Wear it basically fresh-faced, with just a hint of coverup and a low-impact eye, to complete the wholesome look.
  • Get it right: Instead of putting the blush on the apples of your cheeks, aim higher—to the tops of your cheekbones. “Just like highlighting, putting blush along the points where the light hits does wonders for your bone structure,” says Amick.
  • Amick’s pick: Revlon Cream Blush in Flushed

Why Not Try… A Black Eye

  • And by that I mean, a smoky eye created with black eye shadow. If you’re like most women, drawing on a cat-eye with liner is a challenge and this is a great solution. “It’s an intense look, but it’s effortless,” says Amick. Black works with every skin tone, and because the shadow is applied and blended in, you really can’t screw it up. “Apply it with your fingers to gently add just the right amount of color,” says Amick.
  • Get it right: Especially if you’re taking your smoky eye out on the town, make sure you use a waterproof shadow (and consider an eye primer first). “Otherwise, it will run down your face,” says Amick.
  • Amick’s pick: Inglot AMC Gel Liner #77. “Apply like a cream shadow and blend out. It's very water proof!”
