Double-Duty Fall Trends

I love it when we get a fresh crop of fashion in the fall! There’s something exhilarating about seeing new colors and silhouettes, it makes me excited to get dressed up again. But with new styles come new challenges as you figure out how to work them into your current wardrobe. Here are three totally wearable trends I’m loving for fall, and how to make them work double-duty for you.

Workout-Inspired Pants

A challenge to the skinny jean: An elastic waist and relaxed fit are the ultimate in comfort, but elegant draping and tapered ankles keep them from looking sloppy.

  • For a night out… Choose a dressier material, like wool, silk or imitation leather, and pair them with a structured shirt and heels.
  • For hangin’ in… Resist going full sweatpants jersey—a cotton blend will hold its shape better. A drapey tee, sweater and flats are all you need.

Animal Motifs

Time to get a little wild! Tongue-in-cheek graphics of friends from the forest and zoo are a fresh alternative to the more familiar stripe, dot or floral.

  • For the millennial… Try a large-scale design of a single animal in an offbeat hue, printed or knit into a classic silhouette so it doesn’t feel too young.
  • For the mature woman… An allover print in a smaller scale is your secret weapon—it just reads as pattern, but is playful up close.

Lodge Knits

Chunky weaves, oversize silhouettes and Fair Isle-inspired prints make fall’s sweaters tempting to snuggling in to.

  • For work… Try is with a straight, structured skirt or menswear-inspired trousers to balance the free-form feel.
  • For the weekend… Balance the volume with skinny leggings or jeans and a knee-high boot or play it up with equally slouchy jeans.

#fbf to 1994 (ish) with my buds, @richardwiese and @wendirogerstv Bought that sport coat on sale for about 20 bucks because that’s all I had in the bank. Was 10% wool and 90% “other.” Got caught in the rain with it and smelled like wet dog ass all night.

Nine years ago, I made a vow to live my life based on three guiding principles: Love, Awe and Gratitude. Today, instead of feeling sad, angry or anxious about The Chew’s cancellation, I will look through the lens of Gratitude and thank: My cohosts, @chefsymon and @carlaphall, for being two of the greatest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. The crew and staff of The Chew for being so dedicated, hardworking and collaborative. Our viewers for allowing us into your homes each day to share a laugh and a recipe — and a cocktail. It’s been a fun run and I am so freakin’ lucky to have been a part of it. Much love, CK ❤️
