Give Your Lemonade a Kick with Tequila, Cayenne & Cilantro

Punch up your next outdoor affair with this Spicy Lemonade. It's half lemonade, half margarita and 100% refreshing. Make sure to have plenty on hand because once guests get a taste of the tequila, cilantro simple syrup (sugar and water with cilantro blended in) and sugar-cayenne rim, they’ll probably want to swim in it.

Mexican Lemonade

Lemonade Punch

  • Yield 5 Servings, easily doubled
  • Prep time: 1 hour
  • Active time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 quart lemonade (the tarter, the better)
  • ½ c Cilantro Simple Syrup (or to taste based on lemonade)
  • 1 c silver tequila
  • lemon wedges, to serve
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar

Directions

  • In a large pitcher, stir together the lemonade and tequila. Add the simple syrup (recipe below) gradually, stirring and tasting, adjusting to taste based on the sweetness of the lemonade.
  • To serve, combine the sugar and chili powder and mix well. Pour onto a plate and moisten the rim of the glasses with a lemon and dip in chile sugar. Add ice to the glass and pour lemonade. Enjoy.

Cilantro Simple Syrup

  • 1 bunch cilantro, roughly chopped
  • 2 c sugar
  • 1 c water

Combine the sugar and water in a small saucepot and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Stir to dissolve the sugar, and then stir in the cilantro. Remove from heat, and then cool completely. Strain into a clean vessel and refrigerate until ready to use.
