Labor Day Star: Steak & Shrimp with Parmesan Sauce

Alright. It’s the last big BBQ weekend. So don’t grill up another burger (though we’ve got great ideas for those, too!), instead, pull out all the stops and impress your guests with this scrumptious surf & turf recipe. Tender steak, garlic-y shrimp and a creamy parmesan sauce combine for an entrée that’s decadent but not too heavy. Start salivating….

Steak & Shrimp with Parmesan Sauce

  • Serves 4
  • Prep time: 15 minutes
  • Cook time: 20 minutes


  • 2 10 oz ribeye steaks
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ lb large peeled shrimp
  • ½ c cream
  • ½ c grated parmesan
  • salt and pepper

  • Preheat a lightly oiled grill or grill-pan to medium-high heat.
  • Season the steaks generously with salt and freshly ground pepper. Grill for 3 minutes per side for medium-rare or to your desired temperature. Set aside and tent with foil.
  • In a large skillet over medium high heat, melt the butter and olive oil. Once the butter has melted, add the garlic and cook for one minute, and then immediately add the shrimp, or else the garlic will burn. Add the shrimp and season with salt and freshly ground pepper and cook until it just turns pink. Add the cream and bring to a boil, and simmer for one to two minutes, until reduced, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and immediately stir in cheese.
  • Platter the steaks and pour over the shrimp and sauce. Serve immediately and enjoy.
