Spring Fever Cocktail with a Kick

Spring is almost here! After slogging through months of ice, snow and beard-ruffling wind, the anticipation of those first green buds has me practically climbing the trees to paint the damn things on. As an offering to the gods to—please!—make it come sooner, we’ve created a Spring Fever cocktail. Inspired by my Effortless Table place setting of the same name, it’s got dried cherries soaked in bourbon as the surprise ingredient—a favorite trick of mine to give a drink an unexpected kick.

Spring Fever Cocktail

For the Bourbon-Soaked Cherries & Bourbon Cherry Syrup

  • 1 c bourbon
  • ¼ c water
  • ½ c brown sugar
  • ¼ c dried cherries

Combine the bourbon, water and sugar in a saucepot and bring to a simmer, stirring to dissolve sugar. Cook until sugar dissolves, about 2 minutes. Pour over cherries in a heatproof vessel and let stand overnight in the fridge to macerate and reconstitute.

For each drink

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 5 mint leaves, plus extra for garnish
  • 1 oz Bourbon Cherry syrup
  • bourbon cherries

Muddle the mint, bourbon and syrup and stir to combine. Add ice and stir until frosty. Garnish with more bourbon-soaked cherries and mint.

Spring Fever Cocktail Recipe

#fbf to 1994 (ish) with my buds, @richardwiese and @wendirogerstv Bought that sport coat on sale for about 20 bucks because that’s all I had in the bank. Was 10% wool and 90% “other.” Got caught in the rain with it and smelled like wet dog ass all night.

Nine years ago, I made a vow to live my life based on three guiding principles: Love, Awe and Gratitude. Today, instead of feeling sad, angry or anxious about The Chew’s cancellation, I will look through the lens of Gratitude and thank: My cohosts, @chefsymon and @carlaphall, for being two of the greatest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. The crew and staff of The Chew for being so dedicated, hardworking and collaborative. Our viewers for allowing us into your homes each day to share a laugh and a recipe — and a cocktail. It’s been a fun run and I am so freakin’ lucky to have been a part of it. Much love, CK ❤️
